Corsi Bashes McCain

Jerome Corsi, who Swift-boated John Kerry as co-author of ‘Unfit to Command’ in 2004 and who is trying to do the same to Obama in his newly minted best seller, ‘The Obama Nation.’

About the same time his book came out (now a number one best seller), I received an email from a friend entitled “Not Exactly”, and the author not identified.  Here’s a few excerpts from this email:

1.) “Selma Got Me Born”  - NOT EXACTLY, your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961 - Selma had no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965. (Google ‘Obama Selma’ for his full March 4, 2007 speech and articles about its various untruths.)

36.) “My Campaign Had Nothing To Do With The 1984 Ad”  - NOT EXACTLY, your own campaign worker made the ad on his Apple in one afternoon.

The first one listed, as far as I’m concerned, is just plain “who cares”.  The second example, doesn’t prove anything one way or another.  The majority of the “points” in this email were similar in nature; either totally unimportant, or vague and misleading at best.

I haven’t read Corsi’s book so I don’t know if these were taken from his writings or not.  From what I hear, it is similar in content and credibility.  This approach comes right out of the “Carl Rove Playbook”; bombard the public with “facts” about their opponent, accurate or not, and let the public and the media sort it out.  Of course this tactic gives the GOP an advantage, since it takes considerable time and research to either refute or accept the statements as true or false.  Additionally, we are bombarded with this kind of stuff from multiple sources, and because of the time involved to do the research, much of it is left unaddressed.  As many of the Rove techniques, it is a brilliant, but ultimately a “dirty” trick.  Once the dust settles, the damage is done.

But just for fun, let’s say that Corsi is an excellent and honorable researcher and author.  Then we also must accept his “research” on McCain.  An example of his assertions regarding McCain follow:

Once again we are left to sort out what is true and what isn’t, with little help from the Media.  Maybe someone like Corsi has the luxury of the time and expense to pursue such activities, but the average working American does not.  We end up having to trust our “gut feelings” rather than evaluating facts.  As for Corsi, well, hey, at least he’s bi-partisan in his slandering!
