Route 66: Day 5 – On a Rainy Day, You Can’t See Very Far

When exiting the Santa Rosa area, you drive through the town of Santa Rosa itself. The feel of the town is old, somewhat run down, but hanging in there! We drove past a few Mexican restaurants that look like they have been there forever, and I bet put out a terrific Huevos rancheros breakfast! I love towns like this, and wonder what it would be like to reside there.

We pretty much followed the storm that hit us in the middle of last night. Light rain tho, so driving was easy, even pleasant. Low hanging clouds over the New Mexico pinion pine desert and distant mesas made for a dramatic visual effect. On to Texas, past “Cadillac Ranch” west of Amarillo, and stopped at the FOrt Amarillo RV Resort, just north of route 40. This is a very well kept place, and has a heated pool and even an exercise room. If you’re bored, they have one of those “curio” shops under the same roof where you check in. I guess it has some sort of “theme”, but I’m not sure what it would be. It’s one of those places that women seem to like, but lack any sort of underlying coherence, at least to the male mind.
